I have been trying to post since Friday, but have been met with obstacles that have prevented me from not only posting, but from dieting and exercising. But hey, I'm not dead. Have I mentioned that I am the queen of justification?
Friday evening was supposed to be a a special "girls night" in Toronto with my BFFs and my daughter. We were going to Toronto.. going to see We Will Rock You.. going to hook up with my BFF Carmen.. and then staying over at the Sheraton.
However, in order to achieve this goal, extraordinary measures had to be taken.
So.. had to leave Barrie to drive to KW to drop off Mocha the Wonderdog, along with a stop at 401 and 6 to drop off Jodi's vehicle. The best part of the drive was seeing my number one fan on the 400... a car with the licence plate "BETH 001".. obviously one of my many admirers.. LOL.. I made the daughter try to take a pic... it's a little blurry. I suggested we pull up beside so I could wave... however, my number one fan is a sketchy looking little man.. so we just kept driving..

Traffic on the 401 west of 6 was at a standstill.. therefore made a detour through Guelph.. adding an additional hour to the trip. FINALLY got to KW to drop off the dog, grab a quick hug from the son, then basically hit the road again... the show was at 8pm. It was about 6pm. My visions of checking into the hotel and stopping somewhere for a leisurely dinner were looking pretty dim.
We took a vote.. after all, we were starving and hadn't eaten. What to do..? We felt we only had one option. Drive Thru. Dirty dirty drive thru. It was either that or bite off our own arms. See? We had no other option.
We pulled into line at McD's and scanned the menu for something that wouldn't instantly give us another 5 pounds of cellulite and a massive coronary. We elected to go with the Chicken Burritos. Fast food, but hopefully not as brutal as a Big Mac. This is where the derailment began....
As we got on highway 8 heading to the 401 it was snowing slightly.. but the roads weren't too bad. I was hopeful that we might still make it to the show. Then cars in front of us started braking suddenly.. there was a car in the ditch and another couple crashed in our lane. I managed to stop, but then looked in the rear view mirror..... to see a car about to plow into our rear end... the rear end of my brand new 2009 Hyundai Elantra. "Please God, No!"
At the last minute the driver swerved to the left and slid up beside us, scraping his car against the median... but did not hit us. Thank you Jeebus.
We kept heading toward Toronto..... and the trip was all right until we hit the Gardiner. At which point we clued the hell in. It's January 9th. AC/DC at the Rogers Centre. We were stuck on the Highway to Hell.
So we finally got to the Sheraton at 8:05pm... the show had already started. By the time we are in our room, and getting ready and all and all.. we wouldn't get there till the show's half over. We Will NOT Rock You. Nor would there be any rolling. Damn you to hell, Gardiner Expressway!
Instead we called my lovely Carmen, ordered some room service beer and broke open the wine. The derailment continued. But if we can't rock out, we'll rock in. Carmen and her buddies showed up.. we had a drink.. then headed out to the bar. Of course, those drinks were followed by more drinks.
Carmen coined the term "Drunkerexia". We also proved my theory of "smoking makes you drunk harder"... smoking cuts down on your intake of oxygen.. making you feel more drunk. It's true. It works. Then it makes you have more drinks, falling further off the wagon. In fact, the wagon has long gone.. it's waaaaaaaaaaaay up the road. But seeing Carmen after all this time is worth the celebrating..We joke, we laugh, we kibbitz, we take pictures. We have fun. We decide to call it a night. Carmen and her pals head out, Jodi, the daughter and myself head back to the Sheraton... laughing all the way.
Unfortunately, the combination of alcohol and not a lot of food earlier in the day affects our decision making abilities which is how we came to be ordering pizza and onion rings at 1am. We cannot even SEE the wagon at this point.......it is long, long gone.
The rest of the weekend included birthday dinner and birthday cake, Timbits, a ton of driving and some more wine (once all the driving was done). But I did do some dog walking and some crunches. And over the course of the weekend I saw five car accidents in total.
But Jeebus answered my prayers.. no car accidents.. and I'm down 2 more pounds.
